Reading Buddy Postcard!
January 6-27, 2023, visit Wheatland Regional Library, Southeast Regional Library, or Saskatoon Public Library to pick up your family’s postcard. Mail it to Foundations or drop it off at the library. Family Literacy Fun Day
Partnered with the Parry Sound Social Services, EarlyON and our Friends of the Library Group, we are putting on this free family event with a special guest author who will be reading a copy of one of her books along with a craft, art and science activities and a healthy lunch to follow!

Art and Author Reading
Hope Sutton is a local artist and author, who incorporates Ukrainian folklore into her poems and artwork. Hope will have 12 of her painting on display at the Springside Library as well and poetry readings to go with her artwork.
Family Literacy Heritage Craft

Illustrator reading
Lucille Scott, a local artist, has illustrated two books for a Métis author Wilfred Burton. She will come read and share with us her story about becoming an illustrator.

Family Literacy Day at the Library
We will hold a PJ event from 6-8PM to celebrate our heritage. In partnership with the town library, Qalipu Nation, local author Dawn Bak, and local literacy leaders, we will host an evening involving readings, drum making, paper crafts, and, of course, traditional Newfoundland food! This event is open to all ages and their families.
Superhero Story Time
Enjoy a story, crafts, science and sensory activities. Accompanied by 2 RCMP Constables for reading and Q+A.
Family Literacy Night with DeRic Starlight
Join us and enjoy the humor and talent of DeRic Starlight, the Fraggle Rock puppeteer and commedian. Enjoy a message about literacy shared by Granny from the Blackfoot Confederacy. For all parents, students and community members.
Hillview Academy Family Night
Event is open to the community and families with children aged 12 years and younger are invited to join us at our school. There will be 5 literacy stations that families can rotate through. Each stations will contain a book with a matching literacy, art, steam, stem, science activity that corresponds to the book. We will have cake and refreshments.
Family History
Patrons will come in with their families and create a family tree, then paint a family crest.
Story Time at the Lanark Highlands Public Library
Join us for a half hour of stories, songs, rhymes, and fun! This story time will be featuring titles such as Me & The Family Tree by Carole Boston Weatherford and Remixed: A Blended Family by Arree Chung. We will also have a display of books dealing with families of all shapes and sizes and materials in our literacy hub to explore your heritage!
Virtual story time
To highlight Family Literacy Day, we will tell a story by Robert Munsch virtually on our Hearst Public Library Facebook page. A free activity book will also be available on our Facebook page.
Family Literacy Day Passport-Scavenger Hunt
We have created a passport for our library. This will encourage patrons to explore the library and find the answers to the clues in the passport.
Family Literacy Day Celebration
Inspired by the honourary chair of this event, author/illustrator Barbara Reid, we invite you and your family to celebrate Family Literacy Day on January 27th at Once Upon a Bookstore!
Our 45 minute sessions will include reading a story that Barbara Reid wrote, and then participating in a workshop about illustrating with modelling clay.
BOOK GIVE-AWAY
This year to promote literacy and the joy of reading for Family Literacy Week, the Chateauguay Valley Literacy Council is donating 400 books to the Fondation du Centre jeunesse de la Montéregie to distribute in their group homes. Also, CVLC will be giving books to 55 low-income families in the Chateauguay area

Discovering Heritages from All Around The World
We will have various crafts, games and activities from "All Around the World" to participate in throughout the week starting on January 23 - 27. On Friday the 27 we will also have some special cultural treats available.

Let's honor our mother tongue! Hablemos Español! creative writing workshop (6-12 Yrs Old)
Award-winning Writer, emerging filmmaker and photographer Yannis Lobaina will be leading us through bilingual (Spanish_English) creative writing exercises and mixed media collages to explore our heritage by using and honouring our mother tongue. The event will end with a Q&A. This event is ideal for children in grades 3 to 6. Hablemos español!

Family Reading Kits
Family Reading Kits are now available at six Library locations and online. Featuring four different titles for children ages 6-17 and one picture book for younger readers, the kits include discussion questions to spark lively conversation, related activities, and more staff-recommended titles to read aloud as a family or in your classroom.

This Family Literacy Day, the Yukon Literacy Coalition invites all Yukoners to Get Caught Reading and enter to win! The instructions are simple; take a photo of yourself and / or your loved ones reading in fun and creative places, and enter those photos to win a prize!
Pjila'si Session with Rebecca Thomas
Rebecca Thomas is a Mi'kmaw activist, author and spoken word artist, the former Poet Laureate of Halifax, and the author of "I'm Finding My Talk."
