Land Acknowledgement
We, at ABC Life Literacy Canada, recognize the many Indigenous nations who have lived and continue to live across this land. We honour their care of this land and their relationship with it, and are grateful to be living and working here today in communities across the country.
ABC Life Literacy Canada is continuously learning about the history and ongoing realities of Indigenous nations whom we serve and collaborate with. Our Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committee guides this learning for our team in an ongoing and sustainable way. We are pleased to share our learning and training with our community.
About Land Acknowledgements
Historically, land acknowledgements are a practice shared amongst Indigenous nations to recognize the land they are visiting. Today, land acknowledgements remain a way of recognizing, showing respect, and expressing gratitude to the original Peoples of the land we’re occupying. They also raise awareness of the presence and rights of Indigenous nations and the continued impacts of colonialism.
