HSBC Family Literacy First event in Montreal

Montreal families celebrate Financial Literacy Month

On Monday November 4th, 25 children and their parents gathered at Dawson Boys & Girls Club in Verdun, Quebec to celebrate Financial Literacy Month. Families were on site for the event co-hosted with ABC Life Literacy Canada and facilitated by HSBC volunteers as part of the HSBC Family Literacy First program.

HSBC Family Literacy First is a free program created by ABC Life Literacy Canada and supported by HSBC Bank Canada to bring parents and children together to practice family literacy. The program offers downloadable stories and activities that are engaging for all ages, literacy levels and life experiences. They’re also available in five languages, including English, French, Simplified Chinese, Tagalog and Arabic.

The newest resources available from the program’s Numbers & Cents series, offers three workbooks focused on family financial literacy. Participants at Dawson Boys & Girls Club in Verdun chose to work on the Basketball Dreams module, a workbook that includes activities such as adding, budgeting and saving.

Each of the Numbers & Cents workbooks offer a variety of activities for children aged six to 11 and are written in clear language. The workbooks offer an opportunity for parents and children to spend quality time learning together while practicing their financial literacy skills as a family.
