Will you join these sponsors in lifelong learning?

(Toronto, ON- January 9, 2012 / Upated on February 7, 2012) – ABC Life Literacy Canada is proud to recognize that 12 sponsors have purchased letters from the 2012 Letters for Literacy campaign. Currently in its third year, Letters for Literacy is seeking new literacy champions to make a commitment and support ABC’s work in creating programs and resources for the literacy community.

By purchasing a letter, organizations help Canadians increase their literacy skills, which leads to increased confidence and a healthy productive life. While many supporters seek a letter that is integrated within its organization and brand, if that letter has already been purchased, organizations are encouraged to get creative! For the 2011 campaign, Homewood Suites by Hilton purchased the letter F for Family Travel, once they discovered H and T were already taken.

“With numerous non-profits and fundraisers trying to be heard, we wanted to be creative and step outside of the traditional box,” says Margaret Eaton, President, ABC Life Literacy Canada. “With the support of corporate sponsors, ABC can continue to provide programming and learning resources to adults, their families and the literacy community.  ”

New Zealand’s Tonic Magazine recently applauded this creativity. In the November 2011 issue, Letters for Literacy was championed as an innovative fundraising campaign, providing fresh inspiration to other organizations.

Funding from the sale of the alphabet goes towards ABC’s programs and initiatives including: Family Literacy Day, LEARN awareness campaign, and the development and production of free literacy resources to non-profit literacy organizations, schools and libraries.

ABC has already seen past supporters sign on for another year. Among these champions for literacy is De Beers Canada who has supported the campaign since its inaugural year in 2010. “Instilling a love of learning by helping lift literacy rates provides a lifetime of opportunities that one can develop into sustainable, transferable skills,” said Tom Ormsby, Director of External and Corporate Affairs, De Beers Canada. “De Beers Canada is proud to stand behind the letter D for development, determination and dreams in support of ABC Life Literacy Canada and their ‘Letters for Literacy’ campaign.”

Each literacy champion is recognized for their support through ABC’s website, newsletters and social media. Supporter’s logos are also placed beside the purchased letter in ads that appear in The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star and The Province. In addition, a framed letter is presented to each literacy champion acknowledging their support to literacy.

If you are looking for a way to support a great cause, try the Letters for Literacy campaign. Our corporate sponsors make a remarkable impact on our programs and initiatives across the country.

The deadline to purchase a letter for the 2012 campaign is March 16, 2012.
