Celebrating Our Top 10 Achievements

  1. We became ABC Life Literacy Canada. On March 2, 2010, ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation changed its name to ABC Life Literacy Canada and developed a new vision, mission and brand.
  2. We created a bigger platform for success. Our new name and brand identity allowed us to create a bigger platform and help us reach a bigger audience to talk about 'Life Literacy.'
  3. We expanded our presence in workplace education. In 2009/2010, ABC Life Literacy focused on workplace education by producing a great issue of Training Matters, creating a new website, developing a business-to-business advertising campaign and conducting a study of best practices in workplace training in the health care sector.
  4. We fundraised creatively. In a year of economic uncertainty, ABC Life Literacy was able to gain much-needed funds for literacy programming by launching creative fundraising campaigns. The successful Letters for Literacy campaign raised more than $61,000, and the ABC Life Literacy Media Sale raised more than $94,000.
  5. We celebrated the best Family Literacy Day yet. Family Literacy Day 2010 was revamped with new promotional items, a new ad campaign and a more exciting Munsch at Home Contest. We saw a record-breaking 600 contest entries and more than 314,000 participants across the country.
  6. We launched Good Reads. Good Reads are short, easy reading books for adult literacy learners by top Canadian authors. We were excited to launch this project to provide accessible books for adult learners, as well as a wide range of readers.
  7. We had success in social media. In 2009/2010, ABC Life Literacy grew its online presence through Twitter, Facebook page, YouTube and LinkedIn. With a new audience, we were able to provide more people with the facts about literacy and engage with other interesting people in the social realm.
  8. We were at the table in Ottawa. Our increased presence in Ottawa helped us to develop a provincial government relations strategy on workplace literacy, improve awareness among government members, and put literacy on the national agenda.
  9. We conducted new research. In June 2009, we worked with Ipsos Reid to gain working Canadians' opinions on literacy. The research provided insightful perceptions on the need for skills upgrading and workplace education.
  10. We revised our by-laws. New by-laws helped ABC Life Literacy achieve good governance and act as a model non-profit organization.
