Spring Clean Your Literacy Skills

  1. Write an email or a letter to a friend or family member that you lost touch with. Ask them to get together to catch up.
  2. Go to the library to check out books on your favourite spring activities, such as gardening, golf or traveling.
  3. Sit outside on a nice day and do the daily crossword puzzle.
  4. Take a skills-upgrading course at your local literacy organization.
  5. Bake an Easter cake! Following a recipe is a great family activity and a way to keep your skills sharp.
  6. Attend a garage sale and purchase gently used books and magazines as a cost-effective way to continuously add to your library.
  7. Take a family road-trip. Read signs, billboards and license plates together and learn the proper way to read a map.
  8. Zoo outings and visits to museums and galleries can be fun and educational. Be sure to read all the descriptions on exhibits and displays.
  9. Organize your bookshelf and take previously read books to a used bookstore to exchange them for ones you haven’t read yet.
  10. Follow instructions to make Easter crafts and decorate your home.
