Prestigious Life Literacy Awards now open for submissions

(Toronto, ON – February 28, 2013)– ABC Life Literacy Canada is delighted to announce that the 2013 Life Literacy Awards are now open for submissions to recognize outstanding achievement in adult literacy and essential skills through community literacy, workplace education, journalism, and corporate excellence. Submissions are accepted online at: abclifeliteracy.ca/life-literacy-awards until May 31, 2013.

COMMUNITY LITERACY

The Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life Literacy Innovation Award

In its second year, the Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life Literacy Innovation Award recognizes community organizations that have developed, implemented and delivered innovative literacy programs that make a significant impact on their communities. The top award provides $20,000, and up to four additional honourable mentions receive $5,000 each. Apply now!

WORKPLACE EDUCATION

The Dr. Alan Middleton Workplace Literacy and Learning Award

This award recognizes an individual for their exceptional achievement in increasing workplace literacy and essential skills in their community. The honour was established to pay tribute to the outstanding contribution of ABC Life Literacy Canada board member, Dr. Alan Middleton. Apply now!

JOURNALISM

The Peter Gzowski Life Literacy Fellowship

A tribute to the late broadcaster and journalist Peter Gzowski, this fellowship provides a $3,000 grant for a Canadian journalist to undertake and publish a literacy project to enhance public understanding, support for, and awareness of, the literacy cause. Apply now!

CORPORATE EXCELLENCE

The Honourable Joyce Fairbairn, P.C. Literacy Public Awareness Award

Established in 1996 in honour of Senator Joyce Fairbairn, a long-standing champion of the literacy cause in Canada, ABC selects a corporation for their exceptional contributions in support of literacy.
