In 2010, ABC Life Literacy Canada was chosen as the “charity of choice” for the Third Annual Canadian Short Screenplay Competition (CSSC), the most prestigious short film script contest in Canada. One dollar from every CSSC entry received in the competition from around the globe will be donated to ABC Life Literacy Canada.
“To me, no one else is doing more than ABC Life Literacy Canada to promote and support literacy through unique and engaging programs, especially on the family front,” says CSSC Founder and Producer, David Cormican. “I think it is important to read together and be engaged in lifelong learning, and ABC's programs foster literacy for life, which is why I chose them as this year’s charitable recipient.”
Approximately 513 entries from over 30 countries were submitted to the contest, which ran from September 2010 to January 2011.
“Congratulations to the CSSC on its tremendous success this year,” said Margaret Eaton, President, ABC Life Literacy Canada. “We are honoured to be chosen as the charity of choice for this excellent contest celebrating writing.”
The CSSC will make its donation to ABC Life Literacy Canada at the Yorkton Film Festival in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on May 28, where the winner of the contest will also be announced. The Yorkton Film Festival was first held in 1950, making it Canada's first Short Film & Video Festival. The winner of the contest will receive the prestigious Writers Block Crystal, a cheque for $2,500 and an Apple iPad, along with complimentary accreditation to the Yorkton Film Festival to take in the screenings, awards, workshops and panels and the networking events. Finally, the winning script will be made in to a live-action short film.
