Celebrate International Adult Learners’ Week with inspirational insights from new ABC Life Literacy Canada podcast

ABC Life Literacy Canada debuts a new Life Literacy Radio today in celebration of International Adult Learners’ Week.

In this new documentary style broadcast, we are pleased to present a first-hand account of one adult learner’s journey along with insights from a workplace and essential skills expert.

Joe Gallant is an Alberta resident who has been a lifelong adult learner for close to 28 years. Thanks to his courage, dedication and commitment to better his literacy levels, Joe has moved from underemployed in his field to a position with some supervisory capacities within the oil and gas industry. Working with the same tutor over this time, he has completed three journeyman certificates and is currently working towards his level 4. Joe is a great example of an adult improving his work opportunities and community standing one day at a time.

Tracy Defoe is a veteran of the literacy cause having been involved as a teacher and now expert in the workplace and essential skills area. As president of The Learning Factor, she speaks to employers across Canada about the easy steps they can take to implement workplace literacy and essential skills training for their workforce. Hear about her experiences and how we can support each other in growing literacy through work.
