Four literacy organizations help test Money Matters program

Money Matters, the new community based financial literacy program for adult learners, is getting ready for pilot testing. Thanks to the support by HRSDC and Founding Sponsor TD Bank Group, four literacy programs in southern Ontario will pilot test the four-module program.

Geared towards helping build numeracy skills, increasing financial literacy and growing confidence of adult learners, Money Matters is a unique in-class program that brings financial expert volunteer-tutors from TD Bank Group together with literacy practitioners to help adult learners understand finances and gain confidence in their day-to-day management.

Pilot testing of the program will take place at Alexandra Park Neighborhood Learning Centre (downtown Toronto), Toronto Council Fire Native Cultural Centre (downtown Toronto), Literacy Group of Waterloo Region (Kitchener/Waterloo Region) and Hamilton Literacy Council (Hamilton) starting in mid-May. Through the pilot testing, Money Matters will impact approximately 80-100 learners, involve 20-25 TD Bank Group volunteers and 5-8 literacy practitioners as they practically apply the learning materials to their in-class studies.

In fall 2011, Money Matters will roll-out across Canada with programs in select provinces.
