In anticipation of International Adult Learners Week (March 2-9), ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation conducted on February 27th a special online presentation regarding the assessment of adult literacy learning. Noted international researcher Ralf St.Clair discussed the need for quality assessment; how different types of assessment at different levels can lead to a more tailored and meaningful approach for learners. He also shared research on different types of assessment models studied in Canada and the U.K.
Ralf St.Clair works in the Faculty of Education at the University of Glasgow. Before this he worked in the U.S. and Canada, where he received a PhD from the University of British Columbia. Ralf's main areas of interest are the political economy of educational research and assessment in adult literacy systems. In 2003-04 he was Virtual Scholar-in-Residence with the National Literacy Secretariat, and has recently spent a period seconded from Glasgow to the British Educational Research Association as Research Consultant. Ralf has published a number of articles and chapters about the issues of literacy and literacy education.
