ABC Life Literacy Canada is delighted that the Third Annual Canadian Short Screenplay Competition (CSSC) has decided to make ABC Life Literacy Canada its “charity of choice” for the coming competition year. One dollar from every CSSC entry received in the competition year from around the globe will be donated to ABC Life Literacy Canada.
“When I was looking for a charity to partner with for our third year, I heard about some of the activities that ABC Life Literacy Canada had planned during Family Literacy Day 2010 and I knew right then on the spot that we had to team up with them,” says CSSC Founder and Producer, David Cormican.
Since 2008, the CSSC has raised over $4,000 for Canadian charities, including World Literacy of Canada and Easter Seals.
“We’re delighted by this opportunity to partner with CSSC and their contest which celebrates writing. Writing is an essential skill that we all need to practice on a daily basis,” commented Margaret Eaton, ABC Life Literacy Canada president.
Writing is a key component of literacy and is a skill that requires regular attention and practice. Improvements in technology are driving the need for typing on a daily basis, for both personal and business uses, including Internet, e-mail, and word processing.
It is also important to practice writing by hand, away from digital platforms, where one cannot lean on spell-checking software. Daily attention to writing helps to ensure that skills are kept sharp.
The CSSC is the most prestigious short film script contest in Canada. ABC Life Literacy Canada is excited about its new partnership with CSSC, and looks forward to utilizing this partnership in furthering the literacy cause in Canada.
