The Peter Gzowski Life Literacy Fellowship was developed in honour of the late broadcaster and journalist Peter Gzowski. The fellowship provides a $3,000 grant for a Canadian journalist to undertake and publish a literacy project to enhance public understanding, support for, and awareness of, the literacy cause. The Honourable Joyce Fairbairn, P.C. Literacy Public Awareness Award (The Joycee) was established in 1996 in honour of Senator Joyce Fairbairn, a long-standing champion of the literacy cause in Canada. The award recognizes Canadian corporations’ exceptional contributions in support of literacy.
ABC Life Literacy Canada commissioned Canadian crystal artist and designer Mark Raynes Roberts to develop the awards for both The Peter Gzowski Life Literacy Fellowship and The Dr. Alan Middleton Workplace Literacy and Learning Award. Mark Raynes Roberts is a world-renowned designer and crystal artist, whose crystal art pieces have been presented to royalty and global leaders in business, the arts, sports and sciences.
