Financial Literacy is having the knowledge to understand personal and broader financial matters, skills to apply that knowledge and understanding to everyday life, and the confidence to use the skills and knowledge to make responsible financial decisions that are appropriate to the individual’s situation. (Task Force on Financial Literacy)
Nearly 50% of Canadians struggle with simple tasks involving math and numbers.
Numeracy, also known as math, is the knowledge and skills required to apply mathematic operations, either alone or sequentially, using numbers embedded in printed material, such as balancing a chequebook, figuring out a tip, completing an order form or determining the amount of interest on a loan. (IALS)
At ABC Life Literacy Canada, we understand that increasing the skills and comfort level of all Canadians around personal finances and the use of math in everyday life is essential -- it supports a productive household, a dynamic workplace and a competitive economy. Research released on May 10, 2011 shows that more than half of Canadians admit to needing help with their financial management skills.

Money Matters is a national financial literacy program for adult learners. Offered in collaboration with TB Bank Group volunteer-tutors, Canadians enrolled in community-based literacy organizations have the chance to get involved in the program learning the basics of money management.
