(Toronto, ON – December 12, 2011) - On January 27, 2012, the 14th annual Family Literacy Day® will take place across Canada to encourage adults and children to engage in at least 15 minutes of literacy activities daily. Since its inception in 1999, more than 1.5 million Canadians have taken part, and several Canadian companies have supported the initiative and the literacy cause.
Each year, ABC Life Literacy Canada is grateful for corporate Canada’s support, not only through financial contributions but also through in-kind partnerships, donations and support. With a national reach, Canada’s private sector understands the value in active participation in the initiative through whatever means fits their reality. Whether providing distribution assistance, free books for community groups or individuals to speak out on the cause, helping Canadians engage in family literacy activities at home ultimately increases their literacy skills, ensuring they are living a fully engaged life.
“We are extremely thankful that companies see the positive impact made through Family Literacy Day,” said Margaret Eaton, President of ABC Life Literacy Canada.“With returning supporters and new partners, we are able to reach our goal of inspiring families to embrace learning in everyday tasks.”
Family Literacy Day would not be possible without the generous support of: Corporate sponsors that provide financial contributions to make Family Literacy Day succeed; in-kind donors who provide resources for prizing, which encourages families to take part in Family Literacy Day and also spreads the word about the importance of literacy; media donors, whose support helps spread awareness about Family Literacy Day and the literacy cause; and community organizations that open their networks and connect their stakeholders with this important initiative.
