Watch Munsch tell stories live!

Celebrate Family Literacy Day with an online Robert Munsch storytelling event
Watch Canada’s bestselling children’s author tell stories and Play for Literacy on January 27

(Toronto, ON – January 24, 2011) – As Family Literacy Day® quickly approaches on January 27 many families, schools, libraries and community groups are planning how they will mark the celebration. Why not celebrate the day with Canada’s bestselling children’s author and Family Literacy Day Honorary Chair, Robert Munsch?!

Join ABC Life Literacy Canada on Life Literacy Live at 1:30 p.m. EST January 27 to watch Munsch tell some of his all-time classics as well as possibly unveil his latest Scholastic Canada title, Moose!, to a group of children and parents.

With Play for Literacy as this year’s theme, participate with Munsch in a game of Simon Says, which helps children and adults practice their comprehension skills while learning the parts of the body. Play along by following his instructions or sit back and watch the audience play this fun game. Afterwards, Munsch will invite parents and children to play on stage as they act out his stories.

Family Literacy Day is an annual initiative that takes place on January 27 to encourage families to learn together all year round. Play for Literacy is a great way to show families that learning can be fun. Playing games also creates a strong family bond, promotes language comprehension and improves reading skills.

Robert Munsch has been the Honorary Chair of Family Literacy Day since 2003. Along with his illustrator, Michael Martchenko, Munsch recently released his latest Scholastic Canada title, Moose!, a story inspired by a young boy from Cape Breton Island. This past fall, Scholastic Canada also released two other books: Mad About Munsch!, a collection of five favourite stories, and Too Much Stuff!, a picture book about a young girl who is determined to take all of her toys on a trip with her.
