No end in sight for Robert Munsch's popularity

Mention the name Robert Munsch to anyone on the street and their face instantly lights up. Soon a story is told about how they read his books to their children or how they had the stories read to them by their parents.

As an author, Robert Munsch remains as relevant today as he was when he first put pencil to paper 30 years ago. In the recent listing of Canadian Top 20 bestselling titles (using sales figures ending October 3, 2010), Munsch had three in the top 12 spots.

There is no denying that Robert Munsch is a rock star in the children’s author category. This popularity, along with his status as Honorary Chair of Family Literacy Day®, provides the perfect platform to help inspire Canadians to come together and spend 15 minutes a day doing a learning activity.

When his son Andrew was young, they used to enjoy playing with Lego. Now he is an engineer.

With an eye towards the future, Canadians helped choose Munsch’s 30th book with Scholastic Canada. The book, set in Rigolet, Labrador, will be published in May 2011 and will likely also rise to the top of the charts.

In the meantime, Munsch fans can stay tuned to Family Literacy Day for the announcement of the Munsch at Home Contest Top 10 and wining family.
