Families can get together to colour and answer trivia questions in Raise-a-Reader national colouring contest
(Toronto, ON – January 10, 2011) – Learning is fun and on January 27 Canadians across the country will Play for Literacy on the 13th annual Family Literacy Day®. Family Literacy Day provides a moment for Canadians to come together in their homes, at work, and in their communities to practice literacy-building activities and have fun.
One such activity this year can be to colour together as a family through the Family Literacy Day Colouring Contest, presented by Postmedia Raise-a-Reader. As of January 1, Raise-a-Reader partnering newspapers across Canada have featured a special Family Literacy Day colouring project.
Clip it. Colour it. Answer the fun trivia questions together as a family. When completed, send them to ABC Life Literacy Canada for entry into a random draw. Winners will be selected from across Canada with a total of 13 Family Literacy Day Hasbro prize packs to be awarded. The contest runs until January 31, 2011. All entries must be postmarked by January 31, 2011 to be eligible for the draw.
“We are so pleased that Raise-a-Reader and its partnering newspapers have joined us once again this year to help extend the literacy message,” said Margaret Eaton, ABC Life Literacy Canada President. “Postmedia Raise-a-Reader is a leader in fundraising efforts that benefit family literacy programs in communities across Canada. Together, we can continue to inspire and impact Canadians towards lifelong learning.”
Families can also go online to FamilyLiteracyDay.ca to download additional copies of the colouring sheet to complete together as a family.
If you haven’t already planned your Family Literacy Day activity for this year, this is a great option for everyone to enjoy. You can find additional ideas and resources to Play for Literacy at FamilyLiteracyDay.ca
