Tournament Date: March 22 - 25, 2010 (alternates years with PGI Nunavut)
The PGI in the Northwest Territories is like no other. It is a three-day event that includes visits to schools from our guest celebrities, community concerts, silent auction, community feast and, of course, golf. The school visits get the kids rocking and rapping to the likes of Connie Kaldor, Jonathon Torrens and our own celebrity Godson aka Aaron Hernandez.
Our community concerts showcase local northern talent and give our artists a chance to play with Canadian legends such as Murray McLaughlan, Mike Stevens and Ian Thomas. Pre-concert “Putt with a Celebrity” gives the folks up here an opportunity to try their skills against Sheila Rogers and friends for a donation. When the weather permits, we golf on snow, ice, or slush on a course specially created for our tournament. The Premier’s Dinner wraps up the event on the last evening with awards to our learners and thanks to our generous volunteers and sponsors.
In April of 2008 from the 14th to the 15th we will be holding two concerts and putt in Yellowknife, then travelling one hour to Behchoko on the 16th for school visits and a Premier-hosted Community Feast where local games and drumming will be performed for our guests. Literacy Programs in Behchoko will benefit from the funds raised at this year’s PGI.
