PGI Victoria

Florence Dick, the 2007 winner of The Co-operators Learner Achievement Award, takes a moment during golf day to appreciate the beautiful course at Victoria’s Uplands Golf Club.

The Victoria PGI Golf Tournaments for Literacy, hosted by Project Literacy Victoria, have been held on a Wednesday afternoon in June at the Uplands Golf Club for almost twenty years. In keeping with PGI founder Peter Gzowski’s vision, the Victoria PGI combines golf with the right measure of poetry, live music and learners for a day filled with fun, laughter, and – most of the time – sunshine.

Each year, the Victoria PGI honours one special learner who, in sharing the story of their learning journey, redefines the definitions of the words courage, determination, and spirit. The day ends with an awards banquet that celebrates the golfers, sponsors and community partners, and gives thanks to those who care enough to support the cause of literacy.
