PEI’s PGI Golf Tournament for Literacy, started in 1991 by the PEI Literacy Alliance, has raised close to $400,000 for local literacy programs. The PEI PGI tournament is a fun event with good food, great entertainment, music and poetry. Most of the golfers are PEI businesspeople who take a day off work to support this worthwhile cause. Every dollar raised stays in PEI to support literacy, and serves many purposes, including:

  • Providing ten $500 bursaries and three $1,500 scholarships to adult learners
  • Managing the LEARN line, the toll-free phone line for parents and learners to find information about literacy help in their region, and supported by advertisements in Yellow Pages™ directories
  • Operating the annual Summer Tutoring Program for Kids
  • Supporting the Charlottetown Rotary Literacy Foundation

Participants include approximately 120 PEI business leaders who register either as part of a corporate team or a “Literacy Leader” team. This event raises much-needed funds, celebrates literacy and promotes people’s awareness of literacy issues - and gives golfers, sponsors and volunteers a wonderful experience that keeps them coming back!
