Individuals with strong literacy skills lead fully engaged lives. Improved literacy skills help with work achievement, positive parenting, personal growth, and better health and self-esteem. Unfortunately, millions of Canadians age 16 to 65 are challenged with low literacy which hinders their ability to cope with the demands of everyday life and work.
Because of literacy programs, people have a chance to live, really live – not in the dregs of just surviving, but in the glow of succeeding. — Literacy learner, age 45
